DmC: Devil May Cry (Xbox 360) Review

Devil May Why?
Ninja Theory's attempt to reboot the Devil May Cry series is impressive and polarizing all together. It features some neat gameplay and storytelling, but has some issues of it's own. Can this reboot survive the journey to Hell and Heaven?

STORY-  Born to an angel mother and demon father, Dante is a Nephilim, a hybrid of the two races. Guided by his brother, Virgil, Dante must stop Mundus, the demon king disguised as a rich business man. In DmC, Dante will slay countless demons, enter the twisted world of Limbo, and learn more about his past. While the premise is interesting, I found myself hardly liking the characters at all. The new Dante isn't half bad, with less humor and more cockiness, of course. A polarizing move, but one that doesn't severely damage the game.

Dante is back, with a few changes.
GAMEPLAY- DmC is hack-and-slash game, which is fun and rewarding. Dante has an nice selection of weapons, abilities, and items at his disposal. Using a sword and guns to land a perfect combo is satisfying and painful to for enemies. Also, since Dante is a hybrid of both angel and demon, he can use some pretty slow, but powerful weapons. There is a training mode, where you can practice any of your acquired weapons and try some neat combos. There is a small issue, which is the lack of a lock-on system. A lock-on system can be helpful when enemies come in large groups, which worked great in past games. Despite a minor issue, gameplay remains DmC's best aspect.

Combat is fluid and well-executed, it's
 the game's strongest feature.
PRESENTATION- DmC is stylish and amazing. The levels are detailed and stunning, especially Limbo. Character models are great, as well as cutscenes. The voice performance is great and the dialogue is good, though with a lot of profanity. Overall, visuals and sound are well-done.

OVERALL- Ninja Theory's DmC is an good reboot of an amazing series. Some longtime DMC fans may not like it, which is understandable, but the game has its strengths that make it an enjoyable ride.
