This year's E3 has passed and there's been a lot of long-awaited announcement and surprise reveals from the likes of Sony, Nintendo, Bethesda, and Microsoft. While there have been stinkers such as EA's press conference, most of the other publishers and developers managed to showcases some stunning games. Capcom finally unveiled long-awaited titles such as the Resident Evil 2 Remake and Devil May Cry 5-- the latter I still have mixed feelings for since the trailer didn't hook me. We also got gameplay footage of Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding-- whose premise still remains an enigma.CD Projekt Red's long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 is finally revealed years after its 2012 teaser trailer and from what I've seen it's really looking. Basically, everyone has at least one game they're excited for, and here are my top picks:
Resident Evil 2 Remake (Capcom)
Ever since it was announced that Capcom was working on a Resident Evil 2 RemakeI was pretty excited because id it succeeds, they'll possibly do one for my favorite game in the series, Resident Evil 3. That doesn't mean that I hate RE2 by any means, I enjoyed playing Leon and Claire's debut in a zombie-infested Raccoon City years ago. For the remake, Capcom's using Resident Evil 7's RE engine to recreate much of the game's assets and will incorporate the over-the-shoulder shooting perspective from recent RE games. I'm really excited for the remake and how close it stays true to the original. Better yet, it's coming in January next year, so the wait won't be long.
Ghost of Tsushima (Sony)
From the people who brought to you the Sly Cooper and Infamous games, comes Ghost of Tsushima, a third-person samurai game taking place in feudal Japan. There's lots of stealth and hack and slash action to be had based on the gameplay trailer, which was also stunning with its presentation. While not much is known at the moment, it really looks well-put and one of the games I'll be looking out for in the future.
Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt Red)
The Witcher developer CD Project Red's much anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 finally gets a trailer showcasing its futuristic premise and vibrant visuals. While we didn't get a concrete gameplay trailer, Cyberpunk 2077 is said to be a first-person adventure game in the vein of Deus Ex. It's pretty exciting to finally see CD's latest projekt and how well will it develop over the following months.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo)
Super Smash Bros. is finally hitting the Nintendo Switch in the form of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. A revamped version of Smash 4, Smash Ultimate features the largest roster of character in the series yet, bring back old favorites such as Solid Snake and adding new ones such as Ridley and the Inklings. It's also worth noting that there's a slew of gameplay refinements and new maps being added for the Switch release. It's not an entirely new entry in the legendary series while also not a straight up port. It should be hitting store sometime later this year and I can't wait to get my hands on it considering I held the previous Smash Bros. in very high regard.
Spider-Man (Sony)
Insomniac Games' Spider-Man is looks better with every passing trailer. In the latest trailer, we get a look at the game's villains-- the Sinister Six. We also get to see some in-game cut-scenes and free-roam gameplay. I'm really excited for Insomniac's take the famous web slinger and that September 7 release date is making me all the more anxious to play it.
Overall, this year's E3 was a solid one with some neat games. I'm really excited for what's in store in the following months in terms of updates on the aforementioned games. While I was expecting some kind of update on Square Enix's FFVII Remake and some PS3 backwards compatibility from Sony, I guess that wasn't meant to be.
