October hasn't been the most merciful month since we've gotten crap-tons of games this month such as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Starlink: Battle for Atlas, Super Mario Party, Black Ops 4 and most recently, Red Dead Redemption II. In the past few weeks I've been juggling through a lot of games, hence some the slow stream of content. That and I've been feeling sick for the past two days, so that's just great. To be honest, I'm not sure if I can review every game that's coming out, but I'll try to review some of the games that interest me. For now, here are some of the games that I've been playing for the past few weeks that I think you should check out.
CrossCode (PC)
CrossCode is a fun action-RPG where you explore a semi-real MMO world as mute lead, Lea, who also happens to suffer from amnesia. The story is pretty engaging despite the slow start and the characters were all interesting and unique in their own ways as well. You'll be mostly slashing your way through enemies while also upgrading Lea's equipment and netting some experience in order to level up. The retro-visuals, while nothing surprising anymore, are colorful and full of neat detail. I've spent over 20 hours so far tackling side-quests ad still haven't cracked the surface of CrossCode, that's pretty insane for an indie game.
Gunstar Heroes (3DS)
Gunstar Heroes was the debut title from legendary developer, Treasure, who were responsible for classic shoot 'em up games such as Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun. Centering on a mercenary family known as the Gunstars, they must defeat an evil empire that seeks to rule the planet. Your standard run-and-gun affair, Gunstar manages to mix things up by allowing you to experiment with different weapon set-ups that'll make taking of enemies a breeze, but make no mistake Gunstar Heroes is an old-school game that won't hold back on the difficulty as evident by the tough boss fights that you encounter.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 (PS4)
Yakuza 2 gets an extreme makeover in the form of Yakuza 2 Kiwami. Protagonist Kazuma Kiryu is back and caught up in a war between two largest criminal clans. The game retains the over-the-top beat 'em up gameplay while also having you explore the game's dense environments. Kiwami 2 also make use of the new Yakuza 6 engine, as the game looks and feels leagues better than the original. While I'm still early in the game, Yakuza Kiwami 2 proves to be an engaging adventure in the action-packed series.
