My 10 Anticipated Games of 2020!

A new decade is upon us and that means new games to get excited for! 2020 is a bigger year than before, with big-budget games like the long awaited Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy VII Remake being on the horizon. Even the indie scene is getting some neat-looking games like Ori and the Will of the Wisps. So like every year, I've compiled 10 games that I'm excited and interested in playing in 2020. Let's talk about them!

#10 - Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX (Nintendo)

Gotta explore 'em all.

As one who never played the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon spin-offs, the recently announced Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX caught my attention. A remake of the 2005 DS game, Rescue Team has you playing as a human who's been turned into a Pokémon. It's a roguelike that has you accepting missions, exploring dungeons alongside other Pokémon. The game includes new additions not found in the original game such as auto-saving, mega evolutions, as well as a fresh coat of paint. It's coming out on March 6th, so I'm interested in checking it out.

#9 - Tales of Arise (Bandai Namco)

A huge step-up for the Tales of series.

The latest installment in Bandai Namco's Tales of JRPG series, Tales of Arise is looks absolutely stunning. Keeping the renowned action-packed gameplay and introducing a darker, more dramatic premise, Arise looks to be a step up from its predecessors if the trailers are anything to go by. I'm personally excited to give the game a go when it releases sometime later this year.

#8 - Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (TT Games)

The complete saga, again!

While it may seem like an odd pick, I'm a huge fan of both Lego games and the Star Wars license, so when Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was announced I was easily excited for it. The game covers all nine episodes of the Skywalker Saga, with the ability to freely choose which episode to start. While no gameplay was shown during its brief trailer, one cold guess that it'll feature the standard Lego platforming albeit with some refinements since the developers are utilizing a new game engine this time around. The game is slated for a 2020 release as of now.

#7 - Doom Eternal (id Software)

Raise hell on Earth.

The much anticipated Doom Eternal is finally getting released this year after a delay and I'm still excited for the next adventure. Packing the fast-paced first-person shooter gameplay of the 2016 reboot that we all know and love, Eternal aims to expand and improve upon it by introducing new gameplay mechanics such as the grappling hook and move to a more urban environment in Earth. It won't be a long wait since the game is raising hell on March 20th.

#6 - No More Heroes III (Grasshopper Manufacture)

It's finally coming out!

It's been nearly 10 years since No More Heroes 2 realsed on the Wii and ever since, fans were clamoring for a third game, only to get vague replies by series creator Suda51. Well now that's over, as No More Heroes III is confirmed to be hitting the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020. Travis Touchdown is back and is up against an alien prince, whose planning on destroying the world. While no gameplay was shown in the trailer, it is confirmed that the game would make use of the Switch's Joy-Con controllers and that the open world from the first No More Heroes is coming back. Here's a hoping it'll be a blast.

#5 - Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt RED)

2020's most anticipated game.

Cyberpunk 2077 has to be the most anticipated games of the year in the gaming scene right now. Developed by the renowned CD Projekt RED, who brought us The Witcher III, Cyberpunk 2077 is a futuristic first-person shooter where you control your fully customizable character named "V" as they navigate the technologically advanced Night City. Full of shoot-outs, heavy choices, and visual flair, Cyberpunk 2077 has everyone hyped up. It's shame that it got delayed to a September 17th release date, but if more polish that the game needs, then there's no rush at all. Here's hoping it'll live up to the gargantuan hype.

#4 - Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Nintendo)

A new adventure.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has to be the biggest game releasing this year on the Switch and I can't wait to play it. New Horizons marks a fresh start for Nintendo's charming Animal Crossing series as the game sports a new premise in a remote island that's filled with new inhabitants to meet. Judging by the gameplay trailers, it retains the classic gameplay while adding some mechanics as well. That and it looks like a lot of fun too. An interesting fact is that the game was supposed to release last year, however, it was decided by Nintendo that the game would be delayed to March 20th, 2020, a move that cost them over a billion dollar loss. Personally, I'm grateful for the delay as Animal Crossing games have always been polished ones, and New Horizons looks to be no different. It won't be long now!

#3 - Final Fantasy VII Remake (Square Enix)

Getting close now.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is finally releasing this year on April 10th, long after its 2015 announcement. Development and planning issues aside, I'm glad that the long-anticipated remake is nearing release as seeing the past gameplay trailers got me excited to play the damn thing. I'm still disappointed that it took the episodic format and it seems like a long while for the whole adventure to be complete, it's nice to see Cloud and company looking better than ever. So far I'm digging the action-oriented gameplay and super flashy visuals, thanks to the Unreal Engine. The remake generated lots of hype over the years and it doesn't look like it's going to disappoint.

#2 - Halo: Infinite (Microsoft)

A return to form.

As a huge fan of the Halo series, it's only natural that Halo: Infinite is at the top of my list. Sure, there hasn't been much in terms of gameplay as we've only got teaser trailers. Thankfully, it's been confirmed that two-player split-screen will be back again, so at least that's good news. Master Chief is back for another adventure, this time taking a major role in the story. Honestly, Infinite looks like a return to classic Halo games judging from the screenshots and Chief's Halo 3-inspired design. I can't wait!

#1 - Resident Evil 3 REmake (Capcom)

Nemesis is back!

Of course the Resident Evil 3 Remake is my most anticipated game of the year. Being a remake of one of my all-time favorite games, it was a dream come true when Capcom dropped the RE3R trailer. Jill Valentine is back once again and packs a new design that still hasn't grown on me. Still, it's great jumping back into Raccoon City one more time and I have to say, Nemesis is looking more terrifying than ever. Resident Evil 3 Remake is releasing on April 3rd, so it's not a long wait. Here's hoping it's a blast!
