Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Review

Metal Gear Solid 2 was amazing. It introduced many game play elements the first Metal Gear Solid couldn't and earned many high scores. When Metal Gear Solid 3 was announced many where excited about the game's setting out doors, but where a bit skeptical about the main character.Fear not because Metal Gear Solid 3 has a lot of tricks up it's sleeve as well as an interesting plot.

The series rewinds back in 1964 during the Cold-War Era, the game acts as a prequel to all of the games in the Metal Gear series. The story follows FOX operative Naked Snake, the man who would later become the legendary solider Big Boss, heads into the Soviet territory to bring scientist Sokolov to the west. However, the mission ends in failure when a female solider known as The Boss defects to the Soviet Union. Snake's new mission is to rescue Sokolov, destroy the Shagohod, a weapon of mass destruction, and assassinate The Boss. The game's focuses on stealth and infiltration while containing it's fourth wall- breaking humor.

The game's main setting is out doors in a Soviet jungle. Since the game takes place in the 60's, you won't be supplied with high tech gadgets. You are alone in the wilderness, stalking and waiting for the right moment to attack your enemy. New to the game is the camouflage index, the higher the percentage value, the less likely Snake is to be detected. Visibility is controlled by switching different face paints and camouflage outfits. When unarmed, Snake can use CQC(close-quarters-combat) to grab enemies and put them in a choke hold. In addition, a stamina gauge is visible under the health bar. If you continually run, crawl, climb your stamina decreases. You will need to hunt for food in the jungle to restore your stamina to full. Lastly, there is an injury and treat system whether you have been shot by the enemies or poisoned  by a poisonous insect you can be cured. With all that been said, the game has some slow downs during combat and gunfights.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is amazing. It's camouflage system, CQC, stamina meter, etc. adds to the gameplay. It's engaging and excellent story makes it the best MGS game to date.

  OUTSTANDING
