Small games, big creativity.
  Some people may find indie games to be simple and plain, but that's not the case.Over the past years, we had great and creative indies, such as Papers, Please and Minecraft. What is an indie game? An indie game is made by a small team of developers who aren't owned by a publisher. Sometimes, they'll approach crowdfunding sites such as Kickstarter for money. While it may sound unprofessional, most projects end up being completely success and even rival AAA games. Indie games at times can feature a lot of creativity compared to big-budget games, Limbo and Fez, and many more are great examples. Now that's out of the way, we list the best indie games of recent years.

World of Goo

 2D and physics come to life in World of Goo. Basically, you must lead a pack of blobs to the end of the level by linking them. While it may sound simple and straight forward, it a delightful and complex game.

Minecraft

 One of the most famous games of recent years. Love it or hate it, Minecraft does something really creative. The game starts you off with nothing and may be a bit slow. However, the further you explore, the more items and weapons you acquire, allowing you create whatever you want! From simple houses to castles, the sky is the limit.

Don't Starve 

 From the creators of the excellent  Mark of The Ninja, Klei entertainment, comes Don't Starve. The main goal of the game is to simply (yeah right) not die from enemies, insanity, and obviously, starvation. It may sound like a chore, however, Klei makes it worthwhile.

 Guacamelee is a great mix of platforming and Mexican culture. You plays Juan, a pro wrestler who must journey through the world of the living and the dead.

Papers, Please

 While it sounds like work, Papers, Please is a lot of fun. You work as an immigrant inspector, and your job is to make sure that people can enter the country of Arstozka legally. However, it's not a simple job. Some people can bribe you so that they can enter the country; and you need money so that you can take care of you're family. There is enjoyment to be had in this one.

Hotline Miami

 Guns, masks, and a lot of blood, that's Hotline Miami. Set in the 80's, you'll be mercilessly killing a lot, with over the top violence and an amazing soundtrack, it's definitely recommend.

Shovel Knight

 Recently released this year, Shovel Knight is a great indie platformer. Using NES-era visuals and elements from Castlevania, DuckTales, Mega Man, and Super Mario Bros. 3. It's full of great level design and challenging, adding more fun. If you are a fan of platformers, don't miss this one!

Fez

 Fez isn't just a simple platformer, it's an excellent one. It's level design is one of the best and will require some thinking. Also, the pixel visuals and soundtrack are impressive adding to depth to game.

Limbo

 Despite the simple gameplay, Limbo is a perfect blend of art direction and video games. A boy must find his sister, that's mainly the plot. However, during his journey, the boy will meet various creature and machines that are willing to kill him, if he dies, you'll be shown some gruesome deaths. In the end, it turned out to be a success, generating over $7 million for the developer, Playdead.

Bastion

 Easily one of the best indie games has to offer. The presentation is spot-on, the visuals are astonishing, and the soundtrack is one of the best. The gameplay is a nice mix of hack-and-slash and RPG, which end up being really entertaining. In conclusion, Bastion is the best indie game out there and should not be missed.
