Video games are full of great characters, mainly the ones we play as.Over the history of games, we've had a lot of memorable and amazing characters, weather it's the blue blur, Sonic The Hedgehog; or the faceless bad ass, Master Chief.Usually, we do a Top 10 list, but since video game protagonists are varied, we'll make an exception and extend the list to a Top 15.

Ezio (Assassin's Creed)- Ezio is the most interesting assassin in the Assassin's Creed series.With his brothers and father wrongly executed, Ezio shows a lot of emotion and seeks out the ones who wronged his family.Compared to the other assassins in the series, Ezio has the most appearances in a game, for a good reason.

Sonic (Sonic The Hedgehog)- Although he had some lackluster games (mainly Sonic 2006) later in his career, we all remember Sonic The Hedgehog as the fastest character in video games.For years, Sonic has been constantly foiling Dr. Eggman's plans and collecting rings.Not to forget he's had lots of debates between him and Mario.

John Marston (Red Dead Redemption)- The most mature character developer Rockstar Games has created.John Marston is an honest guy (unlike most Rockstar characters), with good intentions.John Marston is always up from some shoot-outs (especially with zombies!), for the sake of his family.He's one of the honest and badass characters in gaming.

Bayonetta (Bayonetta)- Probably the most unique and weird character Platinum Games has made yet.Bayonetta has a great sense of humor, excellent combat expertise, and stylish appearance.Basically, she's the female equivalent of Dante.Bayonetta is a witch that you don't want to screw with.

Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy)- One of the most interesting and famous characters in the Final Fantasy series.Cloud was one of the most iconic video game characters in the 1990s.The spiky-haired protagonist of Final Fantasy VII have had an impact on the gaming industry, with his huge sword, personality, and not to mention cosplays.

Commander Shepard (Mass Effect)- One of the most heroic protagonists to come out of the 7th generation of video games.Commander Shepard saved millions of lives and the entire galaxy.Shepard is also badass in combat, which adds to how much cool he/she is.
Gordon Freeman (Half-Life)- Since his debut in Half-Life, Gordon Freeman has been saving the world and killing zombie-like creatures with his trusty crowbar.Although he doesn't talk much (literally), you can tell that everyone counts on him, "Follow Freeman".He's the right man in the wrong place.

Dante (Devil May Cry)- Funny, laid-back, and sarcastic, Dante has been hacking and slashing demons since his debut in 2001's Devil May Cry.The reason why Dante so awesome is that he's a blast to play as.Using his famous sword, Rebellion, and his dual pistols, Ebony & Ivory, Dante is ready is ready for anything that awaits.In a stylish manner, of course.

Nathan Drake (Uncharted)- Although danger seems to follow him in every game, Drake is ready for all kinds of shootouts, beatings, and adventures, all in the sake of fortune.Drake is also full of personality, thanks to voice actor Nolan North, he's shown to be caring and funny.Also, he's one of PlayStation's most recognized face.

Samus Aran (Metroid)- Everyone who played the original Metroid were shocked to find the silent and armored hero of the game to be a female.Well known for her skillful combat, deadly arsenal of weapons, and strong determination; Samus has made a name for herself. Throughout the games, Samus has been exterminating metroids and alien pirates.She's Nintendo's most badass character.

Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)- Lara Croft is most well known female character in video games.Always seeking adventure, Lara Croft is well prepared.She's intelligent, attractive, and highly capable.Making her debut long before Drake, Lara Croft is a force not to be reckoned with.

Master Chief (Halo)- Making his debut on the original Xbox, Master Chief has been Microsoft's most well known mascot.He's taking orders and is set on getting them done.Never showing the slightest worry, Chief is the kind of guy you can depend on.

Solid Snake (Metal Gear)- Although Big Boss is a strong contender, there is something about Solid Snake that's makes him unique.Snake has a calm and cool personality, even in the most serious situations.From Metal Gears to tortures, Snake has endured all that alone.He fights because that's what he does best, Snake is gaming's most iconic protagonists.

Link (The Legend Of Zelda)- With the Master Sword at hand and the triforce of courage, Link is ready to banish any evil that awaits.For over 25 years, Link has been vanquishing evil through countless games.Some may say he lacks personality due to him being silent, but actions speak louder than words.

Mario (Super Mario Bros.)- The most well known character in the video game industry.After his debut in the 1980 Donkey Kong, Mario has been appearing in many games which includes tennis, fighting, and carting.He also had some pretty amazing games (Super Mario 64, the Galaxy games, etc.).Mario may not look as badass as the other characters on the list, but looks can be deceiving.
