Hyrule Warriors Review

Hyrule Warriors is the strange mix of The Legend of Zelda and the Dynasty Warriors series'.Many Zelda fans were skeptical of the outcome of this crossover.Fear not, Hyrule Warriors is filled with Zelda references, in a Dynasty Warriors fashion. That brings us to the main question, is Hyrule Warriors a successful and fun title on the Wii U?

Story- A dark force lead by the sorceress Cia threatens Hyrule, and it's up to a Link, alongside Zelda, Impa, and many warriors to rebel.Along the way, the group meets a mysterious sorceress named Lana whom will aid them on their journey. Most notably, the Zelda timelines clash with each other, characters from Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, and Ocarina of Time make an appearance. While focusing more on gameplay, Hyrule Warriors features an interesting story mode, which is better not to spoil it if you're planning on playing it.

Link is back for a new adventure.
Gameplay- The gameplay is the biggest aspect of the game.If you've played Dynasty Warriors, then you'll be at home Hyrule Warriors.Like most Dynasty Warriors games combat can get repetitive. However, that's not the case with Hyrule Warriors. For example, items from previous Zelda games such as arrows, bombs, boomerangs, and even the fire rod are usable and are a change of pace. Also, there are hidden heart pieces and secret areas that encourages exploration.

Hyrule Warriors is filled with
classic Zelda references.
Most notably are the boss battles in the game.Bosses such as King Dodongo, The Imprisoned, Giraham, and Zant receive the spotlight.Another interesting aspect is revisiting some of the areas in Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword; all of which are great, but areas from Wind Waker and Majora's Mask could have made an appearance.

Another aspect is the cooperative play with one player plays on the Wii U GamePad and the second player plays on the TV.The co-op is fun as long as you have a second player who's willing to play. The Adventure Mode feature is an interesting one.In this mode, you can explore the original The Legend of Zelda map, which full of challenges to complete such as beating 300 enemies in 10 minutes, which breaks the repetitive pace of the game.Fans who played the original LoZ will find this mode appealing.

Combat can get repetitive, but the
various game modes changes things a bit.
Visuals & Sound- Visually, Hyrule Warriors looks great. The art direction and character models are interesting, especially how detailed the cutscenes are.The soundtrack features metal remixes from previous Zelda games, the memorable sound effects also make an appearance, such as when opening a chest, completing a mission, etc. However, this is a common criticism, but voice overs would have suited Hyrule Warriors best, instead characters get to nod and look at each other awkwardly.

The visuals and sound in
Hyrule Warriors are great.
Overall- Although Zelda fans might appreciate  Hyrule Warriors the most, newcomers will also find a lot content here. The gameplay might get repetitive, but there lots of modes and items that will keep you wanting for more.Is it the Zelda game we have been waiting for? No, but it's definitely a nice distraction till Link's first debut on the Wii U.
