The Evil Within: The Consequence (PS4) Review

No More Running
The Consequence, the second and final part of Kidman's story has arrived a while back and it answers many questions The Evil Within left open. This time there will be more action-oriented segments compared to The Assignment stealth sections. Also, there are two new gameplay features introduced as well, which should entice some to come back finish things off.

STORY-  Some slight spoilers from The  Assignment follow!

After escaping her superior's wrath, Kidman continues her search for Leslie, only to have found out what he's actually capable of. Shade, the light lady from The Assignment is back again to harass Kidman, but it will be her last. Additionally, we get interesting flash backs of Sebastian and Joesph's younger days long before Kidman joined the force. We also discover the true nature of STEM and Ruvik's true intentions. Basically, all the info. the main game failed to show are explained here. However, The Consequence raises a few questions at the end, with a possibility of The Evil Within 2.

GAMEPLAY- The Consequence still plays similarly to its predecessors, which is nice but the movement can disjointing for returning players. This time there is a good balance between stealth and combat. The first chapter sees you silently taking out opponents due to the lack of a firearm. A new mechanic is introduced, pushing enemies off ledges, is an effective way of eliminating enemies with little to trouble. A later section which is a mix of stealth and combat has Kidman burning down Ruvik paintings to free Leslie from his control.

Unlike The Evil Within's tougher main protagonist Sebastian, so playing as Kidman demands better attention. She can be killed in two hits and lack much stamina, thus demanding a cautious approach against enemies.

Furthermore, the bosses are a treat in The Consequence. Shade, the "light lady" Kidman encountered in The Assignment is here and despite the tedious fight, it's great finishing her once and for all. Also, Kidman's boss makes many encounters with her and I found the end boss well-made thanks to Tango Gameworks's efforts in making the gameplay fresh as possible.

PRESENTATION- If you've played its predessors, there's nothing new to see here in The consequence except for some new araes, which are a great change of pace. The voicework is the same and its still great. Basically, the presentation is mostly unchanged compared to The Assignment.

Prepare to face the light.
OVERALL- While it could have used more variety, The Evil Within: The Consequence is a worthy conclusion to Kidman's story and does its job of explaining the main game;s story. Hopefully we'll see more The Evil Within in the future.

EXCELLENT
