What I'm Currently Playing [October 2017]

Gran Turismo Sport (October 17).

Hello everyone. Apologies for the lack of recent activity lately, college life has proven once again to be pretty time and effort consuming. Thankfully, I've regained some free time and I'm ready roll out some content over the coming days. October is here and it's about time I've had an excuse to play a good horror game. There's also some neat games to be released this month such as Gran Turismo Sport, Super Mario Odyssey, and Wolfenstein II as well. I haven't been playing much but I'll be trying pick up and checking out The Evil Within 2, which I've been dying to play, and Metroid: Samus Returns on the 3DS (feels like ages since I last reviewed a Nintendo game...). For now, here some of the games that I'm currently playing:

Cave Story+ (PC)

Cave Story is arguably among the most well-known indies out there. A 2D platformer inspired by the likes of Metroid and Castlevania, it has you shooting all sorts of varied enemies and saving the world from a crazed Doctor, all while navigating through a large cave. Featuring an 8-bit aesthetic reminiscent to classic games and a catchy retro soundtrack, it's a must-play for those craving for a SNES-inspired adventure with great storytelling.

Nioh (PS4)

Team Ninja's Nioh is a third-person, hack-and-slash game set in the Sengoku period in Japan. You take the role of sailor William Adams on a quest to thwart the plans of alchemist Edward Kelley and take back his guardian spirit. Nioh is a challenging game, which demands fast inputs and reflexes in order to survive, albeit similar to the Onimusha and Ninja Gaiden games. It also draws elements from the Souls games too. Nioh is a long and tough game that demands commitment, which isn't bad since the feeling of beating a hard boss is a reward in itself.

Horizon: Zero Dawn (PS4)

From the creators of acclaimed Killzone series, Guerrilla Games, comes their latest game yet, Horizon: Zero Dawn. In the distant future where nature has reclaimed much of the land, humans have reverted to using primitive methods in order to survive. However,  much of the world is ravaged with robotic wildlife. Young hunter Aloy goes on adventure where she'll explore much of the life she'd been protected from since childhood. It's a third person action-adventure that has you hunting enemies and craft resources for survival. Additionally, you'll be traversing the game's open-world structure for loot and occasionally meet new people along the way. Highly anticipated and acclaimed upon release, Horizon stands among one of the best games of the year, and one I have yet to finish.

Horizon and Cave Story have been a blast these past days. Things should progress more smoothly in the following days. There's a lot of games coming out this period that I might skip on simply due to the limited time and resources to cover them at the moment, though hopefully I'll catch on them eventually. Until next time!
