What I'm Currently Playing [July 2018]

Sorry for the lack of activity these past weeks, I was preoccupied with life and my never-ending laziness got the best of me yet again. That didn't mean I wasn't playing some games in between my spare time as there's some games coming out in the next couple of weeks to get excited for such as the Switch exclusive JRPG Octopath Traveler and long overdue remasters of the Mega Man X games being right around the corner. Until then, here's some of the games I've been recently playing that you should take look at.

God of War (PS4)

Kratos is back, with some company.

Playing the new God of War game for the past weeks was nothing short of fantastic. I initially had some worries with the new approach to the combat but God of War handles it well and its just as brutal as the rest of the games in the series. The story too is pretty engaging as seeing Kratos once again as a father and mentor to his fledging son was interesting and shows that Kratos has matured over the years. While I won't delve into specifics, as I'll be reviewing it soon, God of War is for sure one of the best action games of the year.

Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack (Switch)

If you want your Mega Man fix, then look no further.

The Mega Man X Collection is hitting store late this month and to warm up, I've been playing the Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack. Originally developed by Initi Creates (Mega Man Zero, Mega Man ZX) for the 3DS, the two games have been ported to the Nintendo Switch in one bundle. The story follows the titular Gunvolt, who posses special powers, as he takes on a giant evil corporation. Minus the difficulty, the games include everything you'd expect from a standard Mega Man game such as solid platforming, neat bosses, and many power-ups. While brief in length, there's a lot of fun to be had here for speed-runners and Mega Man fans alike.

Lumines Remastered (PC)

Flashy with substance, as expected from
the team that made Rez.

The original Lumines graced the PSP back in 2005 with its slick aesthetic and catchy electronic soundtrack. Now the puzzler is back on modern hardware with remastered visuals and audio. Lumines never looked better and the gameplay still has you lining up 2x2 square block as you move along the beat of the music. It looks simple and easy at a first glance but gets insanely difficult when the levels get fast and demanding later on. The gameplay is basically a stripped-down version of Tetris but the main selling point of the game is its soundtrack that's filled with catchy electronic tracks that you unlock as you complete the game's tough challenge mode.

Sorry again for the inactivity this past while. I always say to myself that if I'm not reviewing games, most of the time I'm playing them. That and I have some big plans next month as I'll be celebrating the 5th anniversary of AcidGameReviews as well, so stay tuned for that!
