My 5 Favorite Video-Game Soundtracks!

Most players know how important soundtracks can be in creating an atmosphere that helps the you feel more in a game. Whether it's the simple chip-tune sounds of retro games or the grand orchestra of games like Final Fantasy, video-game soundtracks have always been impressive works of music. Some soundtracks even shape up a large portion of a game and even adding to the experience as seem with games like Resident Evil 3 and Lumines. So it's no surprise today that I'll be listing 5 of my favorite video-game soundtracks and why I find them so awesome.

#5
The World Ends With You

The World Ends With You is one of the few games where I feel that the presentation outshines the rest of them game. The game's colorful character designs and the stylised, contemporary look of the setting made it of the few standout games on the DS. That's not forgetting the soundtrack, which was pretty catchy with upbeat tracks like "O-Parts"and "Long Dream". The rest of the soundtrack is packed with some neat vocals and hearing tracks like "Calling" have that nostalgic feeling that reminds you of the old and simpler times. It's definitely a banger for sure.

#4
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

A lot have been said about Metal Gear Solid 2 over the years, but one thing has remains true, it had an awesome soundtrack. You know you're in for a ride when you hear that epic main theme and from there, the game hits you with all sorts of tracks that nail the sneaky atmosphere of the game. Tracks like the Tanker, Arsenal Gear, and the boss fight themes fit the game well as you'll be coming across a wide range of government conspiracies, wacky characters and over-the-top moments. Let's also not forget the series classic alert theme, which signals that you're in for a rough time when you get caught. It's a tough choice to make when it comes to soundtracks in MGS, but seeing since I loved MGS2 a lot, it was only natural that it would be my pick.

#3
Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV may not have been the game that some FF fans have been patiently waiting for a decade but despite that, the game had a pretty amazing soundtrack. Most will be shocked to know that long-time series composer Nobou Uemastsu isn't the composer for FFXV rather it's the talented and legendary in her own right Yoko Shimomura! The game's soundtrack is filled with grand orchestral tracks that fit the scale of Noctis' adventure and tracks such as the main theme, camp theme, and Chocobo theme really captured some of the best moments of the adventure. Tracks like "The Fight Is On! and "Hunt or Be Hunted" were nice listens as the action gets tough in the game. I chose FFXV's soundtrack over the rest simply because it's the one that I enjoy listening to the most.

#2
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game I've played and the earliest game where I started to appreciate video-game soundtracks. The soothing main theme gently welcomes you into the adventure and then you're hit with memorable tracks like "Kokiri Forest", Hyrule's main theme, "Kakariko Village", and the iconic treasure theme. The ocarina songs were great too and I had fond memories listening to the lost woods theme. All in all, Ocarina of Time has a memorable soundtrack that I still enjoy today and reminds me of my younger days playing games, no surprise since it's from Koji Kondo who is one of Nintendo's veteran composers.

#1
Persona 4 Golden

Really shouldn't come as a surprise since Persona 4 Golden's soundtracks is the best soundtrack that I've had the pleasure of listening to. Combining elements from the pop and rock genres, each track was pure bliss to hear and got me into the Persona series and composer Shoji Meguro's work. The opening theme "Shadow World" set the adventurous tone of the game and pushes you to reach out to the truth. The soundtrack's full of variety ranging from calm tracks such as "Heartbeat, Heartbeak" to more upbeat ones like the game's battle theme "Reach out to the Truth" to some of the best boss music you'll hear in "The Almighty". Let's not forget some of the electronic tracks such as "Your Affection" and "Electronica in the Velvet Room", which are hits on their own. I think I made it clear how much I love Persona 4's soundtrack a lot here and yeah, it's definitely one that I'll continue enjoying for years to come.
