Destiny Review

Developer Bungie's latest and most anticipated game of the year, Destiny, has arrived.Destiny was massively hyped and though it has some flaws, it partially delivers on it's promise, which is what matters most.Does Destiny prove to be as great as Bungie's previous games?

Gameplay- Similar to most of Bungie's games, Destiny is a first-person shooter with some MMO elements. Before you begin your adventure, there are three classes to choose from: Hunter, Titan, and Warlock. All of the classes are unique and have thier own special abilities. Also, they can be customized, however, the customization feature is a bit stiff, with a small selection of hairstyles, faces, etc..

Destiny's three classes:
Hunter,Titan, and Warlock.
In terms of actual gameplay, Destiny is impressive.Nothing is expected less from the team behind the Halo games. The Gunplay is handled well, with a nice selection of assault rifles, rocket launchers, machine guns, and more.Several weapons and armor are balanced, which create a balanced character. Also, melee combat is neat, with each class having their own melee attack.Furthermore, the more experience and special equipment you get, such as legendary weaponry and armor.

Destiny's controls are precise and
well-executed, especially the gunplay.
Visuals & Sound- Visually, Destiny is beautiful and does not disappoint. Bungie did a great job with the environments and the planets.Planets such as Old Russia, Earth and the moon are stunning and pleasing. The same goes to the abandoned wastelands and the variety of enemies. As for sound, Destiny exceeds with it'swell-made soundtrack.Composed by Michael Salvatori, Martin O'Donnell, John C. Johnson, and Paul McCartney; the soundtrack is the game's main highlight.

Destiny's production values, such as
the visuals and soundtrack are amazing.

Story- Yes, it's a bit strange to have the story in the last section of the review, but for a good reason. Destiny is set hundreds of years in the future, where mankind have expanded and colonized planets in the solar system. However, an event called "the Collapse" destroyed what mankind has accomplished and were put to near extinction. However, a mysterious entity called, "the Traveler", saved the remaining survivors on earth. Now, you play as a guardian who embarks on a quest to revive the Traveler and protect humanity.

First of all, the setting is excellent and has a lot of potential. However, the plot is a bit of a mess.Personally, I found the characters to be uninteresting and bland.I barley remember anyone's name or their intentions.Races such as the Awoken and Exo aren't completely explained.Your 'Ghost', voiced by actor Peter Dinklage, is your A.I companion and will handle the talking.Peter Dinklage does a fine job as the Ghost, but the script is a bit bare-bones.Finally (and most notability), are the repetitive story missions. They are literally boring and will have do the exact same thing: deploy your ghost and kill a wave of enemies, that's it.I recommend Destiny's PvP multi-player mode with friends or other players, it's actually fun and not repetitive as the story missions.

Destiny's has some neat
ideas, but sadly, they fall short.
Aside from the generic story missions and the story itself, Destiny does not fully live up to it's hype. There is a lot of fun to be had with Destiny, such as playing with friends and going for higher weapons and armor, hopefully the upcoming expansion packs will address some of the issues and will bring more content. At it's core Destiny is far from a bad game, and a perfect one, but it's worth a try.
