Nier: Automata Saves Platinum Games

Nier: Automata, released on March of this year.

Platinum Games has been around for quite a while now, ever since its conception back in 2007 by a group of ex-Capcom developers such as the likes of Hideki Kamiya and Shinji Mikami. Over the years Platinum proved itself as competent game studio with titles like Baynoetta, Vanquish, and the surprisingly good Transformers: Devastation. Platinum had its downs such as that The Legend of Korra game and Star Fox Zero. That being said, Platinum was in a financial slump recently and the cancellation of their Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound earlier this year sure didn't help. Fortunately, Nier: Automata, their latest work, was a critical and commercial success, earning a 88.74% on Gamerankings and selling over 1.5 million copies in two months, respectively. It's all deserved since Platinum put a lot of care and effort into the game and it shows, I've reviewed the game not long ago here.

To show his gratitude, Kamiya thanked Nier creator Yoko Taro in a Twitter post for saving the company. Kamiya has said that the company will be moving forward with other projects, which is reassuring since Platinum Games is one of the few video game developers that have been making new and original games without falling into the gaming industry's modern practices such as micro-transactions and season passes. As a huge fan of both Platinum Games and Nier: Automata, this is great news and I hope this low-key signals another Nier entry and a remake of the original game.
